Richard-
I recently started to experience some "chunks" of ceramic coming off of the top of the "flue", and I'm concerned that this may hamper my ability to totally shut down the K, if not interfere with my draft control completely. This collar looks like a way to potentially fix that issue? I'll take some pics of the issue I'm having and send them along as well for your expert opinion, but this solution is good to see....

Doesn't ceramic usually break off in chips?
Pretty sure it's concrete (and puke) that comes in chunks. |

How does that solve the problem?? |

Gee, my damper is stuck. I cant get it off, its rusted solid in the closed position.
The stainless band sure looks like a good idea. Shit, stainless material on the old design would have been nice, too. Now, explain how this fancy new collar goes on my grill when I cant get the old one off?!?!
Are people supposed to torch the old ones off from the inside? Or should they just break the neck off the cooker trying to get it loose? Either way, thats still on par with the PITA factor we have come to expect from Kamado. |

And if they do, and they install the new collar... what exactly are they going to thread into it??? The old damper top is permanently rusted to the old spider.
Truth is, they probably aren't making any of the collars. But they had this nice .jpg and thought that posting it was a way of trying to make their forum and business look viable. |
