Richard, your cookers are not made from ceramic. The older ones are made from portland cement. The newer ones MAY be made from refractory materials if we believe you, but none of your cookers are or have ever been made from ceramic.

There are situations where customers would like to remove the LID to make moving the Kamado easier or applying M63D and other reasons. By using this fast and simple procedure, there is no “band adjustment” necessary after lid is removed or replaced as the bands remain adjusted even after removing the front handle section of the bands.

We suggest using the following procedures:

1. Unscrew the DAMPER TOP and remove for better “hand holds”.
2. Close the lid and tighten the “Prop Stoppers” in the fully closed position. For safety reasons, the one half inch prop tube rods could be taped or wired closed as they are under considerable compression.
3. Remove the HANDLE section of the front top band by removing the top two bolts on either side of your Kamado. Note: the bottom bolts remain fully tightened and the bottom band, back bands with hinge and props remain adjusted and are not changed by removing the upper front band.
4. With the front upper band (the one with the handle) removed, the lid is slid/lifted forward and off. Depending on the size of the Kamado and the worker it would take one to 3 men.
5. After the lid is removed, the BASE has excellent hand holds and is very stable with the lower center of gravity. The base is just one big bowl. Most often, the FIREBOX is not removed when moving, however the DRAFT DOOR usually removed to allow another hand hold.

REPLACING THE LID AFTER REMOVAL

1. Slide the lid back to its original position with the temperature gauge aligned to the front.
2. Reattach the handle section of the front band by tightening the two bolts evenly. The band should be slightly above the bottom of the lid and there should be about one eight of an inch space between the lower and upper bands.
3. Tighten ALL bolts as tight as reasonably possible. The tightening compression will not harm the heavy ceramic walls.
4. Remove the restraints and proper stoppers and operate normally.

Note: There should be no adjustment necessary to the bands as they will remain adjusted even though the TOP front band has been removed and reset.
I thought this whole message might be good for archive use. Besides why does he waste his time since he's not even making kamados anymore. If he was Snake would have his by now.
