First, we all wish those in the path of Irene the very best and to be safe from personal harm.

As a general rule, all Kamado sizes have sufficient weight and aerodynamic shape they will and have withstood category 3 hurricanes with additional gusts.

There are a few precautionary that should be observed, as I am sure most of you have done them, but as a reminder:
1, Block/wedge casters if there is a slope to the surface.
2. Close draft door and damper top. If you might be away for some period of time it would be well to Crisco or other lubricant on the damper top threaded rod.
3. Close the lid and lock the prop "T" handles down.
4. Remove loose accessories including the propane tank if you have one.
5. We do not suggest covering the Kamado.

If you remain in your home you might well expect electrical power
outage for extended time. As "Bob in Fl" told us and we have personally witness how we can help ourselves and many neighbors in Kooking everything imaginable from thawing freezer meats to coffee and soups. The Kamado is a excellent substitution for an electric stove with no electricity.

If you by chance run out of charcoal, I am sure you will find plenty of good wood which will work find, just let it burn down to coals.

Good luck

Wink
